The Fingal County Council pilot project was conceived as a showcase of how sustainable procurement, innovative design, and workplace wellbeing can come together to create a high-performing, future-ready office environment. The fit out featured a carefully curated mix of Irish-manufactured furniture and leading European brands, selected for their quality, durability, and proven sustainability credentials.
The primary aim was to create a flexible and adaptable workspace that supports a variety of working styles, encourages collaboration, and enhances employee wellbeing, while reflecting Fingal County Council’s commitment to sustainability. By sourcing furniture and interior solutions from manufacturers with recognised environmental and ethical standards, the project ensured supply chain transparency, reduced transportation impacts, and supported responsible procurement practices.
A strong emphasis was placed on circular economy principles, with products chosen for their longevity, repairability, and potential for reuse or recycling at the end of their lifecycle. Careful consideration was also given to material selection, embodied carbon, responsible manufacturing processes, and alignment with emerging European sustainability requirements.
As a pilot project, the fit-out demonstrated how public sector organisations can successfully balance environmental responsibility, functionality, and design excellence. The completed space provides a modern, adaptable workplace that not only meets current operational needs but also serves as a scalable model for future sustainable workplace developments across the public sector.
